you make my heart smile

you make my heart smile….  I was inspired by Cristina's fun card for the CASE Study Anniversary challenge.  I have two grocery bags full of punches I was given and one of these days I'll pull them out of their bags and put them somewhere I can actually see them… but in the mean time today's challenge was a great motivation to look inside the bag and low and behold I found these circles.  I was also drawn to Cristina's card b/c I love the sentiment…  because today I get to go meet that new baby I mentioned on Monday (and I was WRONG, it's a girl!).   Happy Thursday crafty friends….

baby card

Happy Monday!  Playing along with the new PTI Make It Monday challenge.  Team "blue" (i.e. my boys) are rooting for a new baby boy cousin (who cross our fingers will arrive later today), so in honor of that excitement I've made a baby card.  If it's a girl, I'll remake the card in pink :)  Laurie's video is about using the negatives from the PTI cover plates and I added some to the soft grey card stock then splattered the card base with some metallic blue water color and then die cut out the panel with the Lil Inker stiched frame mat.  B/c we all know I'm a tag junkie, I used the PTI Tiny Tags and Tremendous Tags, some May Arts burlap string and 1/4 inch chevron twill ribbon and added a vellum PTI Half and Half die, Studio Calico wood stars and then added a piece of May Arts 2 1/2 inch cotton blend ribbon for the background.  Just thinking of me nervously awaiting the big news while I fold laundry at the Outside Inn today....

coffee collage card

Happy Sunday crafty pals....  I wanted to play with the PTI Make It Monday challenge this week, but the only color I have for a re-inker is classic kraft, so I used the PTI Hexagon cover plate and added some a bit of color to the white embossing paste.  After leaving the piece on my very messy craft desk for the better part of the week I finally found inspiration in Cindy's card for the CASE Study challenge.  I don't do collage style cards very often at all, but enjoyed pulling out various pieces from my stash and adding them all together (I've got: 2 PTI stamp sets, PTI notebook die, Lil Inker stitched frame mat, Authentique paper, free digi tag, Studio Calico wood arrow, DCWV burlap paper and a flower from I think Basic Grey).  And b/c I had so many layers I decided to make a one layer coffee card inspired by my coffee stamp addict blog pal ~amy~, which I gave to my husband this morning with a cup of coffee.

thanks

thanks…  not sure where I've been this last week, it's not like me to take an unscheduled break from my card blog, but between the return of my family from their trip, a big photo shoot of a farm to table dinner, 2 nights in a tent….  I tried the new PTI Make It Monday technique earlier in the week, but I don't have very many ink refills, so I was stuck on how to mix the colors (I have since tried a few different techniques).  Today's project was inspired by Donna's card for the CASE Study birthday challenge.  I used PTI ink, put it on an acrylic block and then mixed the embossing paste into the ink and it worked well.  Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

perk up CASE Study tag and card

perk up my friends!  I'm playing along with the CASE Study anniversary hop, Laura's card was my source of inspiration.  I started off with the oval shadow of the coffee cup and stamped them on a card stock like Laura's one layer card and then added a coffee cup to the top of the rainbow ovals, but then decided my cup looked too flat, so I cut it out and added it to a tag.  I added a Verve "better with you" sentiment and the PTI background builder and 3 different May Arts ribbon (silk, sheer with ruffle and burlap string).  And below is a card I made with the same inspiration source.

thanks card

I went back and watched Season 4 of Project Runway and have been having lots of "make it work" moments, so of course it made sense to play along with the Runway Inspired challenge.  Love the look of the Hero Arts background embossed with white on vellum.  I bought a new type of embossing powder last week and it has issues if you over heat it, so not sure what I think of the spots where you can see the blank ink (maybe I should've used embossing ink?).   In addition to the background stamp I used some May Arts black velvet ribbon and their new burlap cotton blend ribbon, a piece of gold foil and the PTI thanks die cut.  For the background I combined splatters from my watercolor brush with some metallic mist from Tattered Angels.  It's a beautiful day here in California, check out my morning photo on my walk this morning.  And now I'm off to the County Fair!

hello, just thinking of you.

hello, so I love playing along with the PTI Make It Monday challenge on Monday mornings (b/c I'm ridiculous, but we'll talk about that another day).  And this week after I spent the half an hour I don't really have crafting, I decided I didn't love my card.  So, I got organized for work and thought I'd post the card when I got a chance.  Silly me, I never "get a chance" at work in the summer time.  So, this morning I revisited the card and redid it (twice, to be honest).  And then I took a photo and thought I'd post it when I got to work (can you hear me laughing?).  Okay, so here's my MIM card, many, many hours later...  and I've included the photos of the first two versions of the card, for your entertainment value.

follow your dreams and peace on earth cards

Happy Sunday crafty friends.  Have I mentioned before that I use my friend Lynn's blog as a jumping off point for crafty inspiration?  I'm playing along with two challenges she recently blogged about, the top one uses the Fusion Challenge Sketch and the bottom one uses the Festive Friday inspiration photo (why on earth am I making holiday cards in August?).  Does anyone have an interest in the VW bug stamp I used in the card below?  It's a Unity stamp and that's the first time I've used it and I really don't think it's going to get much inky love.  Post a comment on this blog post if you're interested and I'll randomly pick someone later this week and send it your way (but you have to promise to use it!).  And not all related to these cards, for those of you who follow along on my work blog you know I take a lot of photos, well tonight I tried something new and did a whole underwater photo series of a mermaid, I know, I know, call me weird, but it was so much fun.  Hope to have the photos up on the work blog soon.

beer love

CAS(E) this sketch! and tag you're it challenge have teamed up and I've used the inspiration to decorate a beer bottle.  Good to break free from my wine tags, right?  Wouldn't this be the perfect decoration for a date picnic basket?  Guess I'll have to decorate a wine bottle so, since I don't drink beer...  On this project I've die cut two tags, the top one I used embossing paste with the PTI hexagon cover plate as my stencil and the bottom one was from a recycled woodgrain paper from my stash.  I've added the PTI love die sentiment, some wooden stars and a little man and 3 types of May Arts ribbon (burlap string, silk and velvet corduroy).  Happy Saturday everyone...  I went to a fun art walk in my little town last night, promise to share lots of photos on my work blog later today.

a day to celebrate

TGIF friends... I have no idea why I've neglected my card blog this week, it's Friday and I'm home alone for a couple of weeks and I'm trying to think what I've been doing that has kept me from creating things....    Anyhoo, playing along with the latest CASE Study Challenge.  Below is a tag I made while playing around with some of my Waltzingmouse Stamps....  I'm trying to organize my ribbon and die drawers, and unfortunately I have yet to succeed, so the piles are getting in the way of my creativity?

Card: Hero Arts flower and sentiment, PTI background, vellum, embossing powder, water colors, PTI kraft card stock, May Arts leaves, corner rounder, Versafine black ink, PTI antique linen ink

Tag: Waltzingmouse Stamps flower, leaves, background, Lawn Fawn "to", PTI Tag It Die, plus banner and leaf die, May Arts silk ribbon, PTI kraft card stock, vellum
