So I looked at the Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge so many times in the last week and thought, "what can I do that isn't a witch's hat", because while I've made a few Halloween themed cards/goodie bags, it isn't the holiday that calls my name. So when I picked up the leaf above when I picked my son up from preschool this afternoon I carried it around with me for an hour marveling at it... so I though its shape loosely works for a cone, right? I used the WMS Very Vintage Labels below, thinking you might see the brim of that hat... I know, it's a stretch, but please humor me. I added a layer of PTI chocolate chip and kraft behind the main image to make this work for the current CR8FN color challenge. And since I thought this would be a bit too big for a card, I turned it into a lovely framed piece of work because I wanted to play along with the LESSology wall art challenge (using a real leaf counts as upcycling right?). Anyone know how long real leaves last when framed? Will this be brown in 2 weeks time?
And since I couldn't think past the hat this morning I asked Mr. Ben what he thought of the WMS sketch and this is what he created. He snuck in a smiling face from his WMS Half Pint Heroes set (oh yes, he reminds me often that those are his stamps, thanks Claire). I also love that on his own he paired Core'dinations and May Arts ribbon, I swear he hasn't been blog surfing this week with me... he just knew they were a pair made in heaven?
Materials: leaf, Waltzingmouse Stamps Very Vintage Labels 4, WMS Say It Loud Sentiment, PTI kraft and chocolate chip card stock, water color paper, black card stock, Tattered Angels black mist, Versafine black ink
Ben's project: PTI Big Bloom flower, Waltzingmouse Half Pint Heroes, Core'dinations card stock, May Arts ribbon, Versafine black ink, colored pencils

who cares if that leaf is brown in 2 weeks- it is STUNNING as decor now! And look at you- not so literal today!! :)
Mr. Ben- I LOVE what you've done with the sketch! And May Arts & Core'dination ARE a match made in heaven! How did you know we were working with flowers this week too?! :D
Yeah, Erin, this is amazing. What was our conversation even about this afternoon? I love your leaf and how you've framed it, and I think it perfectly fits with the sketch challenge. And Ben's going to give you a run for your money, wait and see!
Love your framed leaf Erin! Looks fabulous!:)
Thanks for joining us at LESSology! :)
P/s: Ben, I think you might have better stamping skill than me! lol
Beautiful wall piece, Erin! don't know if it will be brown, but I think it will last awhile! Is it pressed behind glass? Anyway fabulous leaf and idea. Erin, your free vegetables were great! Love that idea, too. Ben your card is fabulous as well. Hope you both have a great weekend.
I love Ben's card! It is so fun to watch how our little ones add their own elements!
Love your frame...gorgeous! And way to think out of the box on the sketch. I always go so literal with my interpretation!
Love the framed leaf...you'll have to let us know how it does:)
whatta boy....love Ben's card!
What a beautiful leaf creation, Erin!! Not sure how long your leaf will last, but I carried one home from a walk to school last year and it has retained its beautiful reds. Now that it has passed the test of time, I just may finally put it on a card!!
Ben, your interpretation of the sketch is spot on!! Way to go :D
Love your leafy take on the sketch, it kind of stumped me this week. And I love your little boy's take, especially the smiley face!

I'm so glad you told us that it's a real leaf, because I was just wondering how you stamped it, heee! Gorgeous idea for a home decor piece! Your son is so talented, too! I just love his sweet witch's hat with the patterns and that adorable Halfpint Hero "buckle" :) :)
This is so gorgeous! Ben's card is so sweet- it's fabulous that he loves to create like his mama.
Love the leaf! It's nice to celebrate nature inside! :)
Wow! Gorgeous! Maybe you could take a really good, detailed photo of that leaf and print it out so that once this one dies, you could replace it with the photo. I've never seen such a beautiful leaf!
