May Arts Christmas Tree Post

The May Arts Design Team are helping you get into the Christmas spirit with some fun Christmas tree inspired projects.  I decided to go way outside of my normal comfort zone and create some ornaments, with a few nontraditional materials.  Any guesses on what they're made of?  Well ribbon, of course... but when I asked my husband for some ideas he got inspired and started talking about flashing and a rivet gun.  So I put the man to work, photos and details below!

So we (and I use the word loosely, because I took photos and Dan did all the work), started with a roll of flashing (don't ask me what it's used for, it's just one of the many man tools in the garage).  So with a set of snips cut the flashing to the desired width of your ribbon.  The first ribbon was made with May Arts 1 1/2 inch sheer with diagonal stripes ribbon.  We cut the flashing to be just a tiny bit under 1 1/2 inches wide so the ribbon hung off the edge a tiny bit.

Next up he lined up the strips of flashing and poked a hole in the center and top and bottom, so that after the ribbon was glued on we could poke a hole through and be able to fasten them all together.  Trim the extra ribbon off the edge after gluing with spay adhesive.

Next up pull out the riveter (I know, believe me I had never used one either) and get a 1 inch long rivet and thread through openings at the bottom and then again the top of the ornament.  Presto, you're ornament is not going to fall apart!!!  Thread some MA Sheer Satin band red ribbon through the top and hang on the tree.

For the second ornaments we opted for May Arts Organic Cotton Stripes and repeated the same process.   Since the ribbon was 5/8th inch wide you can see inside the center a lot easier, so I added a May Arts snow flake cut out the center and then tied the ribbon to the tree with some May Arts natural burlap cord.  I love that our non-traditional ornaments are now hanging in our tree next to the ornaments we've collected as a family from our various travels.  Now we all know that the Ribbon Lady LOVES giveaways, so head back to the May Arts blog and check out the sneak peaks of some of the other projects, leave a comment for your chance to win 3 spools of ribbon.
